“I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.” —John 10:10 MSG n Households with over $50,000 in total income account for 75% for all debt in Canada with half of that number making over $100,000. That means this is not a “poverty issue” These stats are speaking about Canadians in general. A Christian Canadian study released in 2010 indicated that 1/3 of people in the pew identified as being on the edge of a financial crisis. God’s people are not living much differently than the general population. Money is neither good nor bad. Jesus did not identify it as either. Money itself is neutral, so why this warning: “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” 1 Timothy 6:10 This often—misquoted verse is a tough one for most believers. We see this in the lives of others, but rarely in our own lives. 1 4 | u n m a s k i n g m a m m o n Unmasking_Mammon_book_4.5.indd 14 2018-07-11 7:41 AM
